Supporting our Asian American and Pacific Islander Community
To Our University College Community,
I’m writing to follow-up on the message sent by Chancellor Haefner on Wednesday, March 17 regarding the targeted and horrific attack that occurred in Atlanta last week, and to condemn the continued violence and racism facing Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders (AAPI). University College stands in solidarity with our AAPI community members in calls to end violence, racism, and prejudice, as well as extend our support to all who are impacted by the dramatic rise in violence directed at the broader Asian community.
Acts of hate have no place at the University of Denver or in our community. It’s critical that we support one another through these tragic and appalling events, as well as stand for justice for all. As we all continue to process the events of last week, we want to remind you of resources that are available to you through the University of Denver:
- University of Denver Health and Counseling Center
- Student Outreach & Support
- The Cultural Center
- The Center for Advocacy, Prevention and Empowerment (CAPE)
- University of Denver Inclusive Excellence Resources
- University College Diversity and Inclusivity Statement
- Responding to Trauma in the Classroom
Should you see any material posted on or near campus that expresses harm or violence, or if you are a victim of a crime on campus, please report it to Campus Safety by calling 303-871-2334. You may also wish to file a report through the Office of Equal Opportunity and Title IX. If anyone is a victim of a crime in Denver, they can report it to the DPD’s bias-motivated crimes unit by calling (720) 913-6458 or email biascrimesinfo@denvergov.org, as well as report it to Stop AAPI Hate: https://stopaapihate.org/.
Sincerely,
University College Dean Michael McGuire
